| Rhodes University Study Looks At Business Strategies for Community Newspapers in South Africa |
In a case study of six independent community newspapers in South Africa by the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership at the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University, the authors concluded that the values used to describe and define grassroots media "have shifted from resistance to reconstruction and development."

On 25 May 2008, Joe Okyere, a regional correspondent of the state-owned Daily Graphic newspaper, and Philip Baidoo, a reporter of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), were physically assaulted by security guards, allegedly on the orders of Isaac Edumadze, Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Eyan-Essiam Constituency of the Central Region of Ghana.

| Seminar in Burundi to Cover Radio Programming on AIDS Epidemic |
The Omega Production Association is organizing a free of charge seminar on the AIDS epidemic for radio journalists in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 3 to 6 June. It will be carried out as part of the Decentralized Cooperation between Burundi and the Region Pays de la Loire (France), which has been involved since 2006 in the development of Burundi.
