| MANAGEMENT: African Press Trends 2005 - This Week: NIGERIA |
The World Press Trends 2005 report, released at the WAN 58th Annual Newspaper Congress in Seoul, shows an increase in circulation and revenue from advertising for the newspaper industry worldwide in 2004. As part of a five week special, RAP 21 will publish African data from the report and speak to the leaders of some of the most successful newspapers on the continent about trends in their markets, and their views on the future of the newspaper industry.

| PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: Innovative training programme goes into its second year |
In 2004, the Mozambique-based NSJ Training Trust launched a training programme that seeks to optimise skills transfer and the exchange of information between media professionals in the region, while keeping costs to a minimum. Since then, dozens of journalists and news outlets have participated in the programme. The NSJ exchange programme operates as such: participants spend up to 8 weeks at a media outlet in another country. They receive their regular paycheque, whereas NSJ refunds half of their travel costs to the host country as well as provide the journalist with a daily stipend.

| Newspapers win big in CNN awards |
Print journalists from Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa were awarded top prizes at the CNN Multichoice African Journalist 2005 Awards ceremony, held in Nairobi, Kenya on 27 June. The winners were selected from a total of 630 print and broadcast entries from 40 nations across the African continent.

| Fully funded training in elections coverage |
Journalists from across Africa can apply for a fully funded training programme on election reporting, offered by the Reuters Foundation. The course will take place from 26 to 30 September in Nairobi, Kenya.
