| Senegal: School Newspapers Hold First Festival |
School newspapers met in April at the first festival in Senegal dedicated to this kind of publication. The goal of the festival was to bring together students and professional journalists to exchange ideas and experiences.
Student life was a key issue in the most recent edition of Madeleine Toundou’s school newspaper with a special focus on (Photos) the food served at the boarding school she attends five days a week on Ile de Goree, an island just off of Dakar. The 16-year-old student journalist from Maison dEducation Mariama Ba has also treated weightier subjects like politics and slavery in the pages of the school publication she has written for since last year.

| Oldest Liberian Newspaper to Celebrate 15 Years |
Liberias oldest independent weekly newspaper, The News, will commemorate 15 years of operation with a series of celebratory events over the next week. The newspapers celebrations kicked off on 18 April with a Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service held in the capital city of Monrovia

This week, RAP 21 speaks to Ibrahim Karim-Sei, editor of the Standard Times in Sierra Leone, on press freedom and the impact that more than a decade of war and defamation laws have had on his publication.

| Call to African Journalists for Submission for International Journalism Prize |
African print media are encouraged to submit entries for the The Bastiat Prize for Journalism, which carries a total cash reward of US$10,000. The prize, hosted by the London-based free market think tank, International Policy Network (IPN), recognises media whose work promotes the institutions of a free society free speech, property rights, the rule of law, free markets and sound science.
