Associated Press Television Network (APTN) cameraman Nicolas Garriga and Gal Ellissade, a motorcyclist for the firm Motopresse, were arrested in front of the conference hall while filming on February 21. Police reportedly told them to stop taking pictures and asked to see their papers before taking them to a police station. They were released four hours later.
On 20 February, a dozen journalists were detained without explanation for several hours in front of the French Foreign Ministry building, where they had gone to report on a demonstration against the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s presence at the summit.
The dozen detained journalists included APTN cameraman Grgory Roudier and production assistant Wan N’guyen, Associated Press photographer Jacques Brinon, Reuters photojournalist David Romeo and his motorcyclist Pascal Talleux, a Skynews cameraman, sound man and journalist and Juliette Errington, their translator, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reporter Ccile Feuilltre and at least two journalists from the British paper The Sunday Telegraph.
