Six modules are proposed to help journalists build their careers.
The first module is already available online at
http://www.iwmf.org/training/module1/ and concerns "Leadership and
Communication." It is divided into seven sections:
What Is Communication?;
Structuring Your Response;
Types of Responses;
Test Your Understanding;
Communication Resources;
Glossary;
Module Evaluation.
The section "What Is Communication?" states that "to be an effective, credible and competent leader, you need to develop a relationship of trust with your staff, your colleagues and your supervisors."
That section provides journalists with precise examples of the way to talk
to colleagues, advising that the best way is to "speak from the neutral mode
passing information without any emotion."
The section "Types of Responses" shows that "there are a number of different types of responses you can give - or receive - each with its own relative level of effectiveness."
Finally, "Test Your Understanding" provides practical exercises and "Communication Resources" offers a bibliography for further research on communication skills.
