Senior southern African journalists or newsroom leaders interested in sharpening their management skills can now sign on for a two-part mid-career media management course at South Africa’s Rhodes University, facilitated by the Nordic SADC Journalism (NSJ) Trust.
The first module, scheduled from June 8 to 20, 2003, will kick off with an introduction to management theories and principles. It will be followed by sessions examining trends in business leadership, strategic planning, business marketing, circulation management, newspaper economics and media ownership patterns in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The second module, scheduled from November 9 to 22, 2003, will focus on financial planning and budgeting, human resource management and team building. The course will also deal with performance appraisals, job analysis, motivation and leadership, audience research, managing newsroom conflicts and media theory.
Scholarships are offered to deserving journalists who cannot afford course fees.
All applicants will be obliged to attend both modules.
