The three-day session will concentrate on a holistic approach to newspaper
leadership in times of uncertainty, focusing on both economic and editorial
management.
Topics will include:
Managing the news team in the face of the political strife from both
within and beyond the newsroom
Maintaining editorial quality with fewer resources
Creative solutions to a decrease in advertising revenue
Winning the loyalty of readers.
Among the key speakers will be Omar Belhouchet, editor of El Watan in
Algeria and winner of the WAN Golden Pen of Press Freedom. Mr. Belhouchet
has successfully steered his newspaper and its staff through many years of
"uncertainty." The session is co-organized by l’Agence Intergouvernementale
de la Francophonie and the Media for Democracy/West African Journalists
Association in Dakar.
The session will also examine strategies for future education and
development of African newspaper staffs.
