Thirty-three journalists arrested in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002

The Congolese non-governmental organisation for the promotion of press freedom, Journalist in Danger, has reported that 33 journalists have been arrested so far this year in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The report said 9 of the 33 were jailed in the territories under the control of rebellions and 24 in the part under the government of Kinshasa’s control.

In 2001, 25 journalists were in jail.
