CNN has announced the start of its annual ‘African Journalist of the Year Competition’ inviting African journalists across the continent to submit entries of their articles on political, economic, social and cultural issues in a competition open to print, radio, television, online and photographic journalists.
Applicants must be based on the continent, and must work for an African owned or headquartered media organisation. Applicants must also have published work appearing in printed publications or electronic media that primarily targets African audiences. Entries will be judged for clear demonstration of journalistic integrity and resourcefulness, well organised research and insight, and finalists will receive a cash prize and attend the Gala Awards Ceremony in Kampala, Uganda in May 2010.
In addition, winners of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2010 Award will also be selected from specified subject categories, and will have the opportunity to participate in the CNN Journalism Fellowship at CNN Headquarters in Atlanta.
