The following is a press release by Posterity Media Nigeria on a soon to be released biography of twenty Nigerian editors.
Posterity Media Nigeria, a growing publishing and communication company based in Lagos, is to present The Gatekeepers, a new book that celebrates media editors in Nigeria, to the public by May 2009 in Lagos.
According to Posterity Media’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. O’Femi Kolawole, The Gatekeepers is an abridged biography of 20 of Nigeria’s leading Newspaper and Magazine Editors and their contributions to Good Governance, Democracy and Better Life for All.
Speaking in Lagos, Mr. Kolawole said the book, which is the second to be released by the company since it commenced operations in 2007, is to celebrate the inspiring efforts of media gatekeepers to the nation’s development more so when these significant contributions are hardly discussed in the public domain let alone appreciated.
"By May 2009, it marks ten years of Nigeria’s return to democratic governance. Of course, a lot has been said about how many journalists were arrested, tortured, jailed or killed in the course of actualizing this and even now when the country is under democratic governance. But not much has been done in consciously acknowledging, commending or even rewarding these sacrifices.
"At Posterity Media, The Gatekeepers is our way of saluting the editors for the good jobs they have done and still continue to do for our country", Kolawole said.
He explained further that the company’s aim is to get all strata of the Nigerian society to at least recognize and appreciate these sacrifices while also inspiring the editors to continue to keep up the good work of engendering a Nigerian society where governance is truly in the interest of the people and citizens, no matter who fathered them or where they were born, can achieve their dreams and positively impact the society.
"We are glad that all the editors featured in the book shared their stories because they truly make interesting read. As a publishing company that encourages individuals and organizations to record their inspiring stories for posterity, we have no doubt that The Gatekeepers would serve as great inspiration to upcoming generations of Nigerians" Kolawole added.
