Scholarships Available to Attend the Highway Africa Conference

Journalists, bloggers, students, publishers and other media practitioners can apply to attend the annual Highway Africa Conference, which this year will focus on the emergence of citizen journalism, from 8-10 September.

The Highway Africa conference, which will be held at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, will address the goals of journalism in society and how citizen journalism fits within those goals.

Through formal presentations, keynote addresses, workshops, interviews and practical examples, the conference will seek to address how new media - such as social networks, mobile phone technology and the Internet - has impacted the way citizens consume and produce news. Among the topics to be covered: how journalists serve citizens, new technology, African experiences of citizen journalism and business models of citizen journalism.

A limited number of scholarships are available to practicing journalists until 30 June. To apply please submit a curriculum vitae with two contactable references, a 300 word statement on your interest and goals for attending the conference, and a letter of support from your Editor or Publisher. Applications should be submitted to Luthando Kiti to L.Kitit@ru.ac.za and copied to dirtyharry70@gmail.com
