The International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) announced that Ugandan human rights reporter Frank Nyakairu, along with Belarus editor Aliaksei Karol, is a winner of the 2008 Knight International Journalism Award. Nyakairu was selected for his in-depth coverage of human rights abuses in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Sudan. As a multimedia reporter for The Monitor and Reuters he has covered a range of critical topics from Uganda’s detention centres to war crimes committed in his country. Nyakairu and Karol will be honoured at the annual ICFJ Awards Dinner at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Centre in Washington D.C. on 12 November.
