The annual prestigious World Press Photo contest awarded two prizes to African photojournalists for this year’s contest that brought in photographs from more than 5,000 photojournalists from around the world. Brent Stirton from South Africa received the first prize Contemporary Issues Award for his image of a group of men evacuating a dead mountain gorilla in Eastern Congo. Bold Hungwe from Zimbabwe came in second place for the Spot News Award for his photograph of opposition supporters fleeing the police in Harare on 18 February.
