African journalists are invited to participate in a videoconference on November 18 to discuss the media’s role in combating HIV and AIDS. Organized by the World Bank, the discussion will focus on ongoing international media-training initiatives related to the pandemic.
Participants will be able to participate in the event via the World Bank’s videoconference technology, enabling them to interact with colleagues elsewhere on the continent. Access to the event will be available at sites in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia, as well as in Geneva, Switzerland, London and Washington, D.C. The conference will feature presenters from groups including UNAIDS, Internews, OneWorld and the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs.
The World Bank is organizing the event to mark the launch of a new initiative designed to help journalists in developing countries cover the AIDS epidemic. The new AIDS Media Center will provide access to embargoed press materials prior to their public release, libraries of select HIV/AIDS multimedia materials and training materials and events for media professionals covering global AIDS issues.
Registration forms, available at http://www.ijnet.org/FE_Article/Ass... must be sent to aidsmedia@worldbank.org no later than November 12. Upon receipt of the registration, the World Bank will give participants the contact information for the event venue and local site coordinator in each country.
