Held in Monrovia, Liberia, the seminar brought together 15 representatives from the Press Union of Liberia, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and the Guinea Association of Journalists (Association des Journalistes de Guinée). Journalists discussed the need to involve more women in media organisations and to develop the capacity of media unions. They also debated the role of media in conflict resolution. Further workshops on these topics are to be held by each organisation later this year.
The IFJ-sponsored seminar is part of activities under the Partnership Initiative for Media and Peace in Western Africa. The initiative is an international undertaking to develop an action plan focusing on conflict-ridden countries in the region.
